What I'm sharing—

The Optimization Sinkhole by Anne Helen Petersen:

"In this way, the quest for the best — or for the hack that will actually make some part of our life less cumbersome — throws a veil of dissatisfaction over our days.

(...)

Instead of looking around my living space with gratitude for the soft comfort I’ve built for myself, inflected with my peculiar tastes and preferences, I see lack. And that dissatisfaction becomes a sort of lingering fog, dampening my experience of the world."

What I'm pondering—

“You only waste time if you’re not intentional about how you spend it.”

— Jake Knapp in Make Time (resurfaced using Readwise — my summary here)

What I'm watching—

Dune: Part Two.

Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Beautiful movie. If you haven't read the books, I highly recommend it. Here's the first book.

What I'm listening to—

Dune: Part Two Soundtrack.

It's a fantastic playlist for focus and another hit from Zimmer.

What I'm watching—

Poor Things.

The incredible tale about the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter.

P.S.

Happy Monday! What I'm sharing— You can't hoard life by Oliver Burkeman: "Spending your days trying to get experiences “under your belt”, in an effort to maximise your collection of experiences, or to feel more confident about the future supply of similar experiences, means placing yourself in a position from which you can never enjoy them fully, because there’s a different agenda at play." What I'm pondering— “We've become so used to the idea that the only reward for getting better is moving...

Happy Monday! What I'm sharing— Make people happier — not just wealthier and healthier by Sigal Samuel: "We don’t have to feel happy in the moment to feel that our lives are worth living. Part of our happiness rests not in the present, but in the meaning we derive from working toward our goals in the future — and in the hope we have that we’ll be able to actually achieve those goals." What I'm pondering— “We shouldn’t work less just because it allows us to be better workers. We should work...

Happy Monday! What I'm sharing— The power of 15 minutes (and other ideas) by Oliver Burkeman: "(...) while you might choose to use a technique like this to build up to 20 minutes, then half an hour, then an hour, and so on, it’s also the case, from one perspective, that life is just one long sequence of 15-minute periods, stacked next to each other. In other words: you never have to do anything for more than 15 minutes! You may just sometimes have to string a few of them end-to-end." What I'm...
