5-Bullet Monday #212: Things I Found Cool this Week

Published 3 months ago • 2 min read

Happy Monday!

What I'm sharing—

The Knowledge Economy Is Over. Welcome to the Allocation Economy by Dan Shipper:

"We’ll go from makers to managers, from doing the work to learning how to allocate resources—choosing which work to be done, deciding whether work is good enough, and editing it when it’s not.

It means a transition from a knowledge economy to an allocation economy. You won’t be judged on how much you know, but instead on how well you can allocate and manage the resources to get work done. "

What I'm pondering—

“You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.”

— James Clear on Atomic Habits (resurfaced using Readwise — my summary here)

What I'm reading—

How Taylor Tomlinson Nailed the Closing Joke in her Netflix Special by The New York Times.

I have a huge admiration for comics because they spend months workshopping words, gestures, and delivery of jokes to get the most amount of laughs. It's one of the hardest types of writing one can do.

This is the story of Taylor Tomlison workshopping the close joke of her new Netflix special.

What I'm sharing—

A Guide for Productivity by Marius Hobbhahn on Less Wrong.

It's a long read but worth it. Makes several interesting points about productivity.

What I'm watching—

The Big Bang Theory.

Rewatching this "classic" show.

Each episode is ~20 min which is great for a quick break or after finishing work.

P.S.

Tomorrow @ 11AM EST I'm hosting the Prioritize Your Work Workshop.

Tickets are just $100 and it comes with a money-back guarantee.

The only catch is that you won’t be able to buy after the deadline.

If you’ve been waiting for the last day, this is your chance.

This link will expire tomorrow:

Happy Monday! What I'm sharing— You can't hoard life by Oliver Burkeman: "Spending your days trying to get experiences “under your belt”, in an effort to maximise your collection of experiences, or to feel more confident about the future supply of similar experiences, means placing yourself in a position from which you can never enjoy them fully, because there’s a different agenda at play." What I'm pondering— “We've become so used to the idea that the only reward for getting better is moving...

Happy Monday! What I'm sharing— Make people happier — not just wealthier and healthier by Sigal Samuel: "We don’t have to feel happy in the moment to feel that our lives are worth living. Part of our happiness rests not in the present, but in the meaning we derive from working toward our goals in the future — and in the hope we have that we’ll be able to actually achieve those goals." What I'm pondering— “We shouldn’t work less just because it allows us to be better workers. We should work...

Happy Monday! What I'm sharing— The power of 15 minutes (and other ideas) by Oliver Burkeman: "(...) while you might choose to use a technique like this to build up to 20 minutes, then half an hour, then an hour, and so on, it’s also the case, from one perspective, that life is just one long sequence of 15-minute periods, stacked next to each other. In other words: you never have to do anything for more than 15 minutes! You may just sometimes have to string a few of them end-to-end." What I'm...
